Master Gao passed away January 17, 2005 in Beijing. Though
hospitalized for a respiratory problem she died due to heart failure in her
sleep. Like many great masters, her teaching and influence has had a deep
effect on her students and those she came in contact with. Her legacy,
spirit and qi will always be present and direct our practice for generations to
come. She is greatly missed.
Master Gao Fu
was accomplished in both Yang and Chen methods of Taiji Quan in addition to
studying Wu Taiji. She
studied Yang Taiji Quan with Master
Jiang Yu-k'un, an advanced student of Grandmaster Yang
Cheng-fu, learning the complete Yang method of Taiji Quan
(form, sword, saber, staff, spear, sanshou). She studied
intensively Chen style Taiji under Masters: Tien Xiouchen and Feng Zhiqiang, both
disciples of the
great Chen Fake.
Upon Master Tien's death she was appointed to teach his classes
by Master Feng. Master Gao has been sent to Sweden and Japan as a
representative of the Beijing Chen Tai Chi Research Society. She established a
club in Seattle, Washington and traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada on invitation to
teach many seminars. Her Chen form work was instilled by Tien Xiouchen.
After Grandmaster Chen Fake's death, his top students would gather, visit, and
demonstrate for each other. Tien was voted the one who's form was closest
to Chen Fake. Master Feng specialized in push hands and applications.
Madame Gao had the benefit of studying with these two men and was able to
combine their teaching, and with her own generosity and dedication, share her
knowledge with anyone interested in learning. |
